Surviving Hunger

Have you ever wondered what the world will be like in the future? According to The Hunger Games movie, it only gets worse from here. The world, or what’s left of it, is divided into 12 districts.

The story sets in the poorest district, district 12. There, lives a girl named Katniss and her little sister, Prim. Every year, district 1, the capital also known as the city of Panem, hosts this gory competition where, two people from every district go and fight for their lives. When Katniss volunteers after Prim’s name gets chosen. Who knows if Katniss and her partner will survive the dangers of the arena? After all that’s where people kill and are killed.

There were things I liked and didn’t like. When it comes the some of the characters, it wasn’t so good. I particularly didn’t like the character Haymitch. He was Katniss’s mentor for the games. He had won them for district 12 in times past. My guess is that he was supposed to be somewhat stupid because, at the beginning he threw up, stumbled on his words, and never exactly knew what was going on. I found that really gross and not something that movie needed. I imagine a mentor being fit and pushing people to do their best. But this guy was a big oaf.

I also didn’t like how they didn’t focus on winning the games, but getting people to sponsor them. People were allowed to send gifts to people, like food, water, even medicine. So they made them look good instead of training them.

The rest of the movie was really good. It’s filled with excitement, intensity, and love. Plus its action was spot on. I really liked the part when Katniss went to the feast. The capital put out food for the final five tributes and a backpack with something each tribute desperately needs. Katniss got attacked by Clove, a girl from district 2, when trying to get her backpack. But Thresh, a humongous man from district 11, come and kills Clove, saving Katniss’s life. I also liked the final battle between three tributes. Who will survive and win the hunger games?

Over all I think the movie deserves 3 paws.
