Weird Times at Grandma's!

Hard times have hit a family very, very HARD. Mary Alice’s brother, Joey, has left home in search of a job. So there is not enough room for the family in their small apartment. Therefore, Mary Alice has to move in with her grandma. Mary Alice is not used to the country, only because she always lived in Chicago. Everyone calls her the city girl. Mary Alice will have to survive this lifestyle for a year. Do you think she will fit in?

I like this book because you feel like you go on many adventures with grandma, and you want to see what sly plan she will do next. For example, grandma stole pecans from an old man’s tree and got away with it. Her grandma is a big woman and gets away with sneaky tricks.

The book makes you feel like you are in the story experiencing what is happening. I recommend this book to you! You will never be able to put this book down, I give this book 5 paws.

Surviving Hunger

Have you ever wondered what the world will be like in the future? According to The Hunger Games movie, it only gets worse from here. The world, or what’s left of it, is divided into 12 districts.

The story sets in the poorest district, district 12. There, lives a girl named Katniss and her little sister, Prim. Every year, district 1, the capital also known as the city of Panem, hosts this gory competition where, two people from every district go and fight for their lives. When Katniss volunteers after Prim’s name gets chosen. Who knows if Katniss and her partner will survive the dangers of the arena? After all that’s where people kill and are killed.

There were things I liked and didn’t like. When it comes the some of the characters, it wasn’t so good. I particularly didn’t like the character Haymitch. He was Katniss’s mentor for the games. He had won them for district 12 in times past. My guess is that he was supposed to be somewhat stupid because, at the beginning he threw up, stumbled on his words, and never exactly knew what was going on. I found that really gross and not something that movie needed. I imagine a mentor being fit and pushing people to do their best. But this guy was a big oaf.

I also didn’t like how they didn’t focus on winning the games, but getting people to sponsor them. People were allowed to send gifts to people, like food, water, even medicine. So they made them look good instead of training them.

The rest of the movie was really good. It’s filled with excitement, intensity, and love. Plus its action was spot on. I really liked the part when Katniss went to the feast. The capital put out food for the final five tributes and a backpack with something each tribute desperately needs. Katniss got attacked by Clove, a girl from district 2, when trying to get her backpack. But Thresh, a humongous man from district 11, come and kills Clove, saving Katniss’s life. I also liked the final battle between three tributes. Who will survive and win the hunger games?

Over all I think the movie deserves 3 paws.

The Magic Tree House Series

Magic Tree House books have been released in Japan, and my sister is reading them. The reason I started reading this book is that I had to read a little bit too. I think I also like reading, because I soon came to the United States, trying to read in America.
I went to the school library and got the Magic Tree House. I began to read with the help of the school and in the library.

The contents of this book, is the story of the hero Jack, finding the tree house and his sister Annie. There are a lot of books, and the book I read had dinosaurs in it. I want to go to the dinosaur era where the tree house suddenly turns round and round. Jack and Annie eventually  return to the original world.

I like this series. In the story of the past gone to Egypt, two people that I entered to find a pyramid, the contents of this book, I was interested in the pyramid. I think that in the pyramid and in the course of reading, I know everything, and they are funny too. There was a princess Meer and pyramids in Egypt. It is a challenge for Meer to go to the underworld. I cannot go to the other world. Jack and Annie find the book based on the message left by the brother of Mira.
I thought this book is amazing. It is so interesting, and it is written in three volumes of the pyramid, which are also true. That's why I wanted to read this story.

I give this story five paws.

A Long Way From Chicago

Have you ever went to your grandmas and have not fit in? Well Joey and Mary Alice feel the same way. In the book A Long Way From Chicago, Mary Alice and her brother Joey go to visit their grandma. They live in Chicago, and their grandma lives in a small town in the country. Their grandma is not a regular person. Lots of people in town are scared of her. She is a big woman who plays sly tricks, and gets away with it.
My favorite part in this book is when grandma pulls sly tricks. For example, she had sewed MTL on a quilt and then went to a sale and tried to make people believe that the quilt belonged to Mary Todd Lincoln. Do you think that grandma will make money off the quilt?  Another example is she has a stove pipe hat she brought to the sale and said it was Abraham Lincoln’s hat. Do you think the Towns people will fall for grandma’s tricks?
I like this book and I recommend it. This book also has a sequel which is called A Year Down Yonder so you can keep on reading! I rate this book with 5 paws. What sly tricks will grandma pull next?!?!

Popcorn and Diapers!

Have you ever laughed so hard you peed your pants? Well, if you have you probably will need a diaper if you watch the show Marvin Marvin. This show is about an alien that comes to earth because his planet was in danger of being destroyed.

I like Marvin Marvin because it has funny scenes. For example, Marvin had a soccer ball and the mom was making soup. He ran an he tossed the ball into the soup and it splattered everywhere!! It’s a really cool show!

This show is on 33 at 8:00p.m. every Saturday. If you like funny shows, you should check it out (but make sure to have your popcorn and diapers ready! J)

I give this show 5 paws!
